Chapter 2 Draft

Chapter 2

The gas poured on the floor and began spreading closer to Emma. She climbed the bookshelf ladder and attempted to break the window near the shelf. It began to crack and she kept hitting a book at it - but the gas was inches from her. She breathed in the blue gas - she went dizzy and her vision was becoming fuzzy. She quickly climbed down the ladder and before she passed out she tried to open the door again. As she was banging on the door and hoping someone would help her, she stumbled on the floor as she was almost unable to see.

Just as Emma was falling asleep from the gas - the door behind her opened and she saw two men, guards. They picked her up and took her outside to a car - just as they loaded her into the car she passed out. She woke up in a containment cell. She was in a prison jumper, which made no sense to her. She went straight for the door and began kicking it - trying to get out.

“I’ve tried. Nothing works.” a voice behind her said.
She turned around to meet a red hair girl.
“My name is Ally…you?”
Emma used sign language to say her name.
“I don’t know that. Are you mute or something?”
Emma nodded and searched herself for a note book or pencil - strange enough she found a little pad in the pocket of the jumper. She quickly wrote her name and handed the girl the paper.
“Emma. Nice.”
Emma wrote another note asking where they were.
“I don’t know. You’re the second person I have seen.”
: In your life? : Emma used an unknown power of telepathy.
“Woah….whoa…whoa. Was that you in my brain?”
Emma shrugged - she thought she had just said that to herself.
“That is freaky dude. I swear I heard someone.”

The door was opened and two guards stepped in and a third threw a boy into the cell. Emma tried to ran for the door but the guards caught her and pushed her back.

“Nice try, kid.” one of the guards said and both snickered as they closed the door.
“Man those people are rude,” the boy said standing up, “hello?”
“Right here, bro. Welcome to our abode.” Ally said.
“Yeah, sorry. I can’t really see.”
“Looks like we all got problems here. Emma is here - she is mute. I have anger issues plus paralyzed in the arm. So welcome to the club.”
: Bad introduction, Ally. : Emma thought.
“Dude that is freaky. Stop it.” Ally said looking at Emma.
“What is freaky?” the boy said.
“Nothing. So, um, what’s your name?”
“Joseph. You?”
“My name is Ally and you already met Em.”

A voice came on an intercom startling the three of them.

“Hello, children.” A female voice said.
“What do you want with us?” Ally said.
“Just the opposite - we don’t want you. But we will put up with you.”
“You should want us! We are awesome.”
“Your disabled and unusable for our project. You will be relocated to a dormitory where you will spend your time. It is really quiet lovely.”
“I am not going to be in some weird place the rest of my life.”
: You might want to calm down. : Emma thought.
“The serum has no effect on the disabled so you all are a liability to our project. You will be taken care - we promise.”
“You mean that blue gas?” Ally asked.
“Indeed. Now I must be going - you will be relocated by the end of the day.” the woman said and the intercom shut off.
“The gas was blue?” Joseph asked.
“Yep. And I hate blue too.”

Emma was confused why Ally kept talking about someone in her head. Emma knew she could sense emotions better than others but thought it was crazy to telepathically speak to people. She kept thinking random things and tried see if anyone reacted.

: This is random. : she finally thought and saw Ally’s head turn and Joseph jumped.
“Who was that?” Joseph asked nervously.
“I think that is Emma being weird.”
“She is telepathic? No way! That is awesome!” Joseph said now excited.
: Does this work? : Emma asks.
“Yep…did you even know you could do that?”
: Not really. I am still confused. :
“It’s awesome just saying. And super freaky.”
“It is.” Joseph added.
: If I can do this. Maybe you guys can too?” Emma inquired.
“I got nothing.” Ally said pressing her fingers to her temples. “Yep…nothing.”
“Do any of you know what that gas was? I have a horrible headache.”
“It was blue and gas-like and made me dizzy.”
: It is a memory serum. It was supposed to wipe our memories I think. :
“I remember everything.”
“Yeah same. Plus, how do you even know that?”
: Remember what that lady said. The serum doesn’t work on disabled people. : Emma ignored the question.
“I guess - but you didn’t answer my question.” Ally said.
: My father is the general. :
“Cool. Wait…you mean that guy that was on the TV earlier?”
: Yes. :

Emma thought about that “why.” It was very confusing that is didn’t work on them - besides having some part of their bodies being disabled they were normal. Well - as normal as you could be being able to use telepathy. But if she had this “power” shouldn’t the others. As she was thinking the room became much warmer and she looked behind her at Ally and Joseph. They were fighting - she assumed Joseph made a comment which made Ally angry. But as the argument continued, Ally’s arm, the one that wasn’t paralyzed, began to glow - soon enough it was consumed in fire.

: Ally, calm down. Your arm is kind of… :
“What?” Ally snapped at her.
“Ally…um your very hot. I mean like your warm as in…” Joseph stuttered.
“What did you say?” All said and looked down at her arm and immediately went pale, “what is happening to my arm?!” she exclaimed and was freaking out.
: Just calm down. I think it has something to do with your anger. :

Ally breathed in and out and with each breath the fire began to become smaller. Finally the room became cooler. Ally was absolutely freaking out and started shaking her arm. Joseph had at first laughed until he realized what she could do to him. Emma sat down - she was exhausted for some strange reason.

: I might take a nap. :
“At a time like this? Are you nuts?” Ally freaked.
: What else is there to do? :
“Fine. Enjoy your nap.” Ally replied coldly.

Emma laid down and almost immediately fell asleep. She was expecting her normal dream but instead was greeted by a third person view at her kidnapping. She was herself collapsed near the library door - two men which she thought looked familiar appeared and took her, like she had remembered. But this dream showed after she passed out. They lugged her into a military car and they high-five’s. That is annoying. Emma thought. The men both hoped into the car and it drove away out of view. But, her dream was interrupted by Ally pinching her.

: What? :
Ally did not reply but motioned her head toward the door where Emma’s father was standing. Emma quickly stood up and ran to her father. She wanted to hug him and cry but guards held her back from physically touching him.
“Emma!” Her father called.
 - Where am I? - Emma replied in sign language.
“A training facility.”
 - Why? -
“I don’t know. I never wanted you to be taken.”
“Time is up, sir,” one guard said and pushed Emma back and she fell to the floor.
“EMMA! I promise I’ll find a way to get you out.”
Emma nodded quickly as the door was slammed shut.
“What was that all about?” Joseph asked.
: That was my father. :
“And…?”
: And nothing…he can’t do anything. :
“That really doesn’t help at all - does it?” Ally complained.
: It is not my fault. He wanted me not to be harmed but the government always has its way. Basically the government defies its own law. :
“Whoopee.”
“Time for sleep, children. You will be relocated tomorrow after some sleep scans are completed.” The woman’s voice echoed through the intercom.

Three panels sprang from the walls and inside was a small and hard bed. Emma was exhausted so she did not refuse the bed. Joseph searched around and stumbled onto his bed banging his head and Ally sat down and began complaining quietly. This is going to be an interesting night.
