Chapter 3 Draft

Chapter 3

“Emma,” a soothing voice called.
“Who is there?” Emma spoke to the darkness.
“If I told you, you wouldn’t believe me.”
“Tell me.”
“I am your mother,” the voice replied and a woman with long blonde hair stepped from the shadows.

Emma could not believe what she saw. Her mother had died when she was born, it was impossible. But the woman standing in front of her looked so much like the photos her father had shown her. The woman’s voice gave Emma a feeling of safety and love.

“Mom?!” Emma began to cry running toward her mother.

Her mother gave her a warm hug. Emma cried in the embrace of her mother who she had never met. They seemed trapped in an immortal moment in which nothing would ever go wrong and nothing bad would ever happen. Emma held tight to her mother as the darkness around them filled with light from love. Though wanting to ask many questions, Emma dare not speak to ruin this moment.

“Emma. We don’t have long. I need to tell you something important,” her mother said.
“Yes?” Emma replied and dried her tears.
“You’re in a place where people lie. They break promises and want to get rid of anyone standing in their way. I beg you to escape. If not for my sake, then for your father’s. He needs you.”
“Mom…”
“Promise me, Em.”
“I promise.”
“Thank you,” her mother cried, “I must, however, go now.”
“Will I ever see you again?”
“Yes, but not for a long time. I have spent my visit from where I am to tell you this. I love you.”

Her mother began to fade away and Emma grabbed for her in tears. “MOM!” she cried. “Keep your promise,” Her mother replied, “I love you so much.”

As Emma’s mother faded away, the plain that was once true white turned back to black. Emma fell to her knees crying. Her mother began to fade away and Emma grabbed for her in tears. “MOM!” she cried. “Keep your promise,” Her mother replied, “I love you so much.” The last she saw of her mother was her bright green eyes, they reminded her of spring, of life.

As Emma’s mother faded away, the plain that was once true white turned back to black. Emma fell to her knees crying. She screamed into the darkness that she would escape, stop this madness, and that she would keep her promise and remember her mother as long as she lived.

Emma felt a hand firmly grip her shoulder and begin to shake her. She was terrified as the shaking didn’t stop but she suddenly awoke on the bed, in the containment cell, where she had fallen asleep. Ally was the one shaking her. Ally seemed worried and Joseph was sitting on his bed confused. Emma attempted to speak, then realized that was only in her dreams.

: What’s wrong? :
“What’s wrong?! You were crying bloody murder in your sleep.” Ally replied angrily.
: Oh, sorry. :
“Just sorry?! You scared Joseph and I to death. What happened?”
: It was just a dream. :
“Fine, keep it a secret. I was just worried.”
: Thanks for your concern. But I’m okay. :

Before he could answer our question, a guard opened the door and a woman, wearing a suit and had a tight bun, walked in and smiled. She opened up a folder and without a word handed us all blank pieces of paper with a pen.

“Sign your names. Don’t ask questions.” She explicitly directed.
“I can’t write. I can’t see.” Joseph said annoyed.
“Ah. What is your full name?”
“Joseph Ethan Cane.”
“Thank you.” The woman replied and grabbed our papers from our hands and promptly walked out.
Ally looked at Emma for answers, but Emma just shrugged, confused herself.

: We need to get out of here. :
“Yeah, but how?” Ally asked.
“I think I have an idea.” Joseph said and both Ally and Emma turned to him.
: Do tell. :
“Ally has some crazy fire arm thing, this room is made of thermophobic metal. She can burn through the door.”
“I am not putting my arm through metal.”
: It’s are only hope. :
“Fine. Make me angry.” Ally said in a partially excited way.

Joseph grinned and made a comment about how weird Ally smelt and Emma began mind-singing the ABC song. Soon enough Ally was not only red in the face but her arm had also burst into flames. “Hit it into the door!” Joseph yelled. Though angered by being commanded to do something, Ally punched at the door as hard as she could. In an instant the metal shattered into thousands of pieces like glass. An alarm sounded and the halls out of the cell turned red, all three dashed out of the door, Ally leading the way and Emma guiding Joseph.

There were no windows, doors or any signals of an exit. They continued to pick random halls attempting to get out. Unfortunately, several guards came out and blocked both ways. The same woman walked through on of the walls of guards with strange, satisfied smile on her face.

“Impressive. Unfortunately, that will need a punishment.” She said and motioned for a guard.

The guard pulled Emma’s father and threw him in front  of her. Emma looked at her father lying in front and looked back up at the woman.

: Why are you doing this? :
“Because I can.” The woman replied and with a smile on her face pulled out a gun.

Emma’s face went pale and she lunged for the woman but was held back by Ally.

: LET ME GO! :
“Emma, no.”

The woman aimed the gun at Emma’s terrified father and pulled the trigger. A bullet flew toward her father and with all her might, Emma screamed and everything held still for a second. But she was too late, the bullet had hit and her father was lying dead on the floor.

Out of nowhere, two people came down and grabbed Ally, Joseph and Emma. Emma screamed for her father — reaching from the arms of the rescuers she tried to grab him. But they moved to fast.

Emma closed her eyes, trying to wake up from this dream. She hoped it was a dream. Though she had a feeling it was exactly the opposite.

: Ally? Joseph? : She called, reaching for the minds of her friends. But her energy was gone and passed out in the arms of the strange rescuer or captor.
